Self- Compacting Concrete( SCC)

Self- Compacting Concrete( SCC)

Self-compacting concrete is a high-performance concrete that’s largely flowable or self-leveling cohesive concrete that spreads by its own weight. Thanks to this property, it can be fluently placed in tight reinforcement.

Also, this concrete possesses the same strength and continuity as conventional concrete.

It’s also known as super workable concrete or self-consolidating concrete.
As the name suggests, this concrete compacts by itself without the use of external vibrators.

Advantages Of Self Compacting Concrete

  1. Faster construction and requires lower force reduce the overall cost of the product.
  2. Self-compacting concrete can be placed fluently in complicated formwork and thick reinforcement.
  3. It’s super workable due to its low water-cement rate, which gives rapid-fire strength development, further continuity, and the best quality.
  4. Bleeding and segregation problems are near o.
  5. As it’s self-compacted there’s no need to use any vibrator.
  6. It produces a smooth and well-finished face at the end of the concrete.
  7. Thinner concrete slabs can be cast fluently.

Disadvantages Of Self Compacting Concrete

  1. Self-compacting concrete requires high fluidity in tight joints formwork, which slow downs the casting rate.
  2. Due to its low water-cement rate, plastic loss cracks may do. But this can be avoided by curing duly.
  3. Largely professed and educated workers are needed for the product of SCC.
  4. It’s more expensive than any other conventional concrete.

The main operations of SCC are as follows

  • Raft foundations and pile foundations
  • Retrofitting and repairing construction
  • thick reinforcement, pipes conduits
  • Structures with complex reinforcement distributions
  • Earth retaining systems
  • Drilled shafts
  • Columns.
