Steel Rebar

Rebar is a short term for reinforcing bar. The basic and important use of steel rebar is in the construction industry. It is used to hold the concrete in tension, in simpler words it is used for increasing the strength of concrete because concrete has a very weak tensile strength.

It is used in construction since the 15 century and this is proven by the rebar found in the structure of Château de Vincennes in France.

Types of rebar

  • European rebar
  • Carbon steel rebar
  • Epoxy coated rebar.
  • Galvanized rebar.
  • Glass-Fiber-Reinforced-Polymer.
  • Stainless steel rebar.

Stainless steel is the best type of rebar. It is most resistant to corrosion and damage from all types. Every project has to have its own rebar size. For instance, for building foundations, strong rebar is used as compared to building walls. The position of the rebar needs to be accurate too as it affects the strength of the building.
